Course Overview

EnterpriseLinux (RHEL) is finding its way into business, education and government. Due to its outstanding reliability, performance and low cost, RHEL is being used extensively for file, database and web server applications. Building on the Enterpise Linux Part 1 course, the Enterprise Linux 5 System Administration Part 2 course is designed to cover in the topics necessary to support the various network services supplied with Enterprise Linux.  

The Linux Enterprise Server Advanced System Administration course will allow delegates to create a local area network; set-up a Network File System server and clients; Network Information Services and DNS. Delegates will also be introduced to Samba to enable Windows based systems access to Linux services; and Apache for web server applications.
The course is not designed to follow any particular certification curriculum. However, completing the both the Enterprise Linux System Administration Part 1 & 2 courses will give delegates sufficient knowledge to undertake the various vendor specific certification exams that are available.

Who should attend

Computer users who have attended the Enterprise Linux Part 1 course and will be required to administer network services on one or more RHEL5, FedoraTM or CentOSTM 5 systems.

   Configuring Linux RAID devices

   Introduction to Logical Volume Management

   Understand the kernel and how it is recompiled

   Setting up network client services

   Sharing files with NFS

   Sharing Windows and Linux resources with Samba

   Setting up a proxy server with Squid

   Setting up Network Information Services (NIS)

   Configuring DHCP servers & clients

   Setting up Domain Name Service (DNS) & BIND

   Using Apache to provide web services.

   Setting up E-Mail services

   Setting up telnet and FTP Services

   Operational recovery & security
